My name is David Aukerman, and I was born in Charleston, West Virginia on November 29, 1979. At the time, my dad (John) was the pastor of a small Church of God congregation in Hurricane, West Virginia. My dad, my mom (Brenda), my older brother (Randy), and I lived there until I was four years old. Then we moved to Anderson, Indiana so my dad could become a professor at the Anderson University School of Theology (www.anderson.edu). My family has lived in Anderson ever since.

After graduating from high school (Highland High School, 1998), I enrolled at Taylor University (www.tayloru.edu) where I studied mathematics and computer science. I graduated summa cum laude in May 2002 and then proceeded to earn a Master’s degree in mathematics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (www.muohio.edu).

In the fall of 2004, my educational life drastically changed course. I came back to Anderson as a seminary student – at the same school where my dad still teaches – so that I could pursue a call from God to enter full-time pastoral ministry. At this point, I am just one year into this degree. It will take quite a few more years to finish. Maybe by May 2009 I’ll be finished!

God has been faithful in preparing me for this moment in time. While taking classes at the seminary, I have been putting my math degrees to work by teaching math courses part-time at Anderson University and Ivy Tech State College. Taylor University (my alma mater) has hired me to be a full-time math instructor for this school year as a one-year sabbatical replacement!

As far as long-term plans go, though, I do hope to become a pastor some day. Seminary classes are challenging and take quite a while to tackle – and I don’t feel any rush to “get through” soon. The Lord knows what he’s doing with us, and I trust that this Taylor job fits into his plan for our life together and ministry in the church.
